It's difficult to change the "image".  However, nowadays there are western
hats built around helmets.  I THINK the bronc and bull riders use them.  The
first (and last) one I saw several years ago was poorly made of felt.  If
manufacturers could create them to be comfortable and make them of beaver felt
like the top class hats, perhaps "cowboys" would be more willing to wear them?
I'll bet there are some endurance riders who would go for these, too.
