Why so many Arabs on the West Coast?

I've been reading with interest the Arab
breeding thread.  Why are there so many
arabs on the West Coast?  Is it because
of racing and the 70's 80's breeding boom?  (or is it just the fact that the
climate allows for such BIG farms?)
