Mike,
I'm glad you and others have raised this issue.  I think it would be
extremely interesting to know the results of any research that might have
been done on the across the board benefits of increased time for the horses
to eat.  If a horse is allowed to eat frequently during the ride, I wonder
if it doesn't cut down on metabolic problems and possibly increase
endurance.  Does anyone have experience with longer hold times on multi-day
rides, for example, where the horse is expected to continue for 200-250
miles?
