Sorry, but "sliding" a horse and STOPPING a horse are not even close to the 
same thing.

And for the record,  I never stated they were LD'ers or that the unfortunate 
accident should be litigated.

It goes back to knowing your horse and what is and isn't safe in respect to 
that particular horse.
I have a horse, and a number of riders galloping along with us have witnessed 
this first hand, who WHOAS from a gallop (with other riders galloping 
alongside) without reins attached to the bridle.  I have trained this Arabian 
over years (four) to do this.  He does not slide, he stops under control.
    I have other horses who will never do this.  But, KNOW YOUR HORSE is the 
operative phrase.
