horses turning yellow

Well, here's what I did once. I had to get a urine sample from a horse and 
couldn't catch him "going". So every day after work I'd go out to his pen & 
sit with some hidden treats & a cup. (Yes, it took hours). When he'd pee I'd 
say "good boy go pee", give him the feed & try to catch the urine in the 
cup. Within a week this horse would pee whenever I approached him with a 
cup. (And then demand his treat).
Unfortunately, this was a barrel horse. Do you have any idea how many people 
with cups walk past horses tied to trailers at a rodeo????
See cup, pee, get food, right????
Of course, there was only so much of the precious liquid available, but he'd 
still stretch out and try. And whinny at them if they didn't produce food.  
So everyone thought something was wrong with my horse!!!
Now we just verbally praise our horses whenever we see them going. It takes 
a LOT longer (and our stallion still has to find just the right spot)
but once they get the idea it's desired behavior it helps!
