Re: Horse Manners....



I agree with you that the basic ettiquette should be the same in every
event.  Unfortunately there are a lot of folks out there that dont have a
clue as to what they are.  Let alone, on how to properly care for their
horses.  Maybe requiring newbies to attend a trail riding clinic their first
year of competition, or at least having them available to go to, would help.
I had over 1000 miles of endurance riding before I ever attended a CTR.  I
had 2 world championships in performance under my belt and 3 appaloosa
distance riding medallions too.  I figured that I would probably be able to
kick some CTR butt.  "This is gonna be easy."  I ate crow big time and I
appreciated the fact that I did.  I have a healthy respect for CTR as well
as endurance riding.    I now am the proud recipiant of 2 Appaloosa Cheif
Joseph awards and am 2/3 of the way to a 3rd.  Unfortunatly I am now riding
a mule instead of an appy (no real difference!)  so the 3rd may never come.
