proud flesh

My mare got a cut on her front pastern 6 weeks ago. The wound was stitched
but the stitches ripped on the second day. Subsequently she developed proud
flesh and the vet had to cut it off a couple of times. He gave me Derma
Clens cream with Dexamethisone added, which slows down the growth of proud
flesh (but also slows the healing it seems). I am still wrapping the wound
, but it is healing very nice and I don't think she will have an ugly scar.

The vet told me that any flesh that grows above the level of the skin
(sticks up higher) is considered proud flesh.
Hope this helps,
Jutta (who spend a small fortune on "vetwrap")
