I have used the biothane reins alone and found them too slippery when wet.  I 
added rubber grips and these worked great.  However, I also use the rope 
reins and like those too.  I used parachute cord ones but they tended to get 
stiff with use and uncomfortable.  They also tended to want to twist up a 
lot.  The mountain climbers rope ones stay nice and soft.   I like the 
thicker ones in the mountain rope reins.
