They actually collect it from a device called a pollen trap that is placed 
under the hive.  I work for a company that sells beekeeping equipment, along 
with other things, so I know more about bees than I ever wanted to know!  If 
you want an inexpensive place to buy feed pollen, you can email me and I'll 
give you their 800 number.
