After a quarter of a century in this sport, I have seen far too many
horse-caused injuries of which the person riding/handling the horse at fault
was oblivious to the injury. That doesn't make it any less of a
"hit-and-run" in my book. So you tell me--your horse goes crashing down a
crowded trail, saddle under belly, and you are UNAWARE that there may have
been some damage done? Well, that may be the case, but lack of ability to
discern that there is a problem does not absolve the rider, any more than it
would if you mowed down a pedestrian with your car.
