Re: Selenium

In this day and age you must really be observant on the amounts of selenium
you really are feeding. I live in one of the few places that has lots of
selenium so I have become very aware of all the places well meaning feed
persons are slipping it into everything. BEFORE YOU BUY anything from grain
mixes, all supplements I have found, things like Red Cell, read the labels. I
do not remember exactly what the toxic level is but Selenium is measured in
PPM (parts per million). Perhaps one of our Nutrition Experts will come on and
fill this figure in as well as formula for adding all the amounts of Selenium
to find out how much you are feeding. I have seen the toxic results and have
even had my hay tested. I have gone to mixing my own grain using in equal
parts oats, corn, barley and alfalfa pellets and boy do I watch any supplement
someone tries to sell me. Just a little tip as sometimes we tend to feed more
than one supplement, vitamin, mineral mix and as we all know horses will self
destruct for the simplest reasons. Lovell
