Human injuries

Doesn't it always happen, you get going on something you really want to do
(ie, conditioning Alpine for endurance) when Bang! something really stupid
happens. I was out playing at Fort Clinch in Fernandina on Saturday, when I
proceeded to climb onto a ledge to get a better look at the Amelia River.
Suddenly, I heard a very loud POP coming from the vicinity of my right knee.
Can we Ouch! So, one emergency room trip later and a referral to the
specialist, all weekend riding plans were off, I was in a splint from my hip
to my ankle and on crutches. Yesterday I tooled on out to the orthopedic
specialist who told me (thank God!) that I hadn't torn any ligaments, but
the cartelidge was shot. I had to promise him I'd stay off my horse for at
least a week! I begged, claiming he's gaited! I don't even use my knee once
I'm on! It was, however, to no avail, and I have been grounded. Sigh.....

So, Alpine has become a small, palomino pasture pet who has begun
specializing in opening barn doors and releasing himself and all other
occupants of said barn. I need to start riding him again to give him
something else to do, or find a way to padlock the barn. Of course, he'd
probably figure out the lock combination and get out anyway. There are some
days I wish I had a less intellegent horse!

Anyway, if anyone has any experience at all with meniscal tears, I'd love to
hear about recovery times. The doctor said if the stability and rotatability
(is that a word? it is now!) comes back I may be able to avoid surgery!
Everyone pray! It is definatly better today and i can walk around without my
splint without any undue pain. Thank god for ibuprofen!
