Years ago we went to a place along the shore of Lake Tahoe and took the two 
horses we had at the time swimming. I had fins and a snorkel and to start 
them off I  took one out carefully on the lead rope and the other would 
follow. They would poop a lot and when they had swam  enough would go to 
shore. I nearly drowned laughing because they looked so funny with their 
bodies underwater and just their heads up. They got to like it very much. You 
can't stay on their backs but I would grab a tail sometimes. You have to be 
careful I think they would drown easily.
