I think what makes a jump course exhausting is the mental stress of it.
While five minutes on the trail may not seem like anything to us, five
minutes over a jump course is five minutes of shear adrenaline, speed and
uncertainty.   It's also extremely exhilarating... a downright thrill!  I
enjoyed it as a youth and young adult, but even so, I personally don't
believe I'd ever trade 50 miles down the trail for that stuff again!
