RE: Sport Saddle by Bob Marshall

Oh thank goodness other people have trouble standing in a Sports Saddle!
I thought that I was just lousy at posting, despite all the lessons. Did
okay at the trainer's, but could not post for s*@# in my own saddle or
even just stand for the trot.

[Karen Sullivan] I have 3 Sport Saddles and my guess is that if someone has trouble posting, then the stirrups are too far forward.
I have very long legs, being about 6 ft.tall, and the two saddles I ride in have the stirrups as far back as they will make them. My heels are right under my hips and it is VERY easy to two point or post-no need to grab mane for stability. I can't tell you how far back exactly, since the one was bought used, and the next one I ordered, I used a pattern from the first. I might guess they are 2" back.

ONLY drawback I can think of is that it could be very easy to pitch forward over the horse. We solved that by using the endurance model on the horse that doesn't spook, and for the saddle I ordered to use on the spooky and young horses; I ordered the training and schooling pommel.

I found with the third saddle (Circle Y Sport Saddle), the stirrups are too far forward and made my right knee ache. However, my 9 year old son does well in this saddle, so it will work for him for awhile. Another note,There ARE differences between the Sport Saddles Inc saddles and the Circle Y Sport Saddles. I doubt I would ever want to own another Circle Y......
