Chickens do carry a disease, however, my vet states that horses don't
catch it.  Just to be safe, he recommended keeping the chickens out of
area where feed and hay are stored.  In defense of the chickens, they do
a miraculous job of cutting down on flies and other insects.  One even
ate a small snake at my place.
