Horses, Chickens, & Diseases

A question to all of you who know anything about chickens.

My neighbor's chickens adopted my barn about three months ago. There are five
of them right now. I hate them but my parents are retired and it gives them
great pleasure to feed the chickens with MY horse feed every time they feed
for me in the mornings.

The other day I had a man at my barn who mentioned the fact that he would
never have chickens around his horses because they carry some sort of disease.

Now, I know lots of people with both chickens and horses. So, do I have
anything to worry about?

One other thing. Does there have to be a rooster for a hen to have chicks??
There aren't any roosters at my barn. Luckily the coyotes/foxes got the
rooster before the chicks were born in April and as far as I can tell, they
were all hens.

Thanks! Kati Walker
