REPOST: horses eating lime

Sorry to be redundant, but I seem to have missed a few
posts, as well as not getting any responses regarding this,
never saw my original post either. (Maybe no one had an
opinion?) Anyway, both horses were digging at the lawn and
then licking the dirt where I had spilled some lime this
spring. I could see the residue still in the soil and they
must have dug 4 or 5 holes to get at the lime. Any idea
what they could be lacking?

Thanks in advance (if you have already posted an answer and
don't feel like cluttering the board again, please e-mail
me privately.)

Heidi
