April, I appreciate your point of view and, believe me, sometimes I don't
like what I see on my scorecards!!! Sometimes, to make myself feel better, I
just say "That judge was blind in one eye and couldn't see out of the other".
It is human nature to not like being critiqued (no matter how gently). So,
I don't blame you a bit. The funny thing is though that after a while, you
start to kind of (I hesitate to say it) LIKE the judging thing. I look
forward to improving my horsemanship every ride. I agree with you that, of
course, CTR is not the only way to learn about distance riding, just one that
I have found to be great fun -- to each his own (thankfully!). Not everybody
is going to enjoy CTR, but I think this whole thread got started because a
newbie type rider was asking about CTR as a way to learn about endurance
(I've been a little distracted, so I may have missed the true start of this
thread). I think it would be a shame if somebody failed to try NATRC based
on a few negative experiences and I would have felt disloyal if I hadn't
stood up for "my" sport. I hope someday to get the chance to see you ride
bareback on a 50. They'll have to come up with some kind of award for you
like "Iron Woman" (or at least Iron Thighs)!!!

Sylvia
