database use for RMs?

Been sick for several days (respiratory flu) so while I'm sitting around I'm 
trying to learn MS Access 97, and figure out what tables and fields within 
tables one would use as a ride secretary/manager.  Any RMs out there do this 
stuff on computer, or do most people just scribble everything on various 
sheets of paper?  I have a copy of an old article from TB regarding database 
use, but it was pretty sketchy.

Things are still up in the air regarding our hopes for a new ride next year 
in northern Idaho at Schweitzer Mountain.  Schweitzer did change hands early 
this year, and kept putting off meeting with our liaison people.  One finally 
had a meeting last month, and now Schweitzer is saying we can't use the front 
of the mountain til after Labor Day.  They are concerned about horses 
possibly injuring people who are up there for other reasons.  There are 
nearby rides the first three weekends of September, so that would put us into 
October and you never know how long Indian Summer lasts here!

They said if we want the back side of the mountain we can have it anytime... 
but I have severe doubts about access and parking!  It will be at least 
another month until we can get in there to explore.
