Angie,

I completely agree with your friend's advice about doing l00 milers. 
Because we had NO hundreds where I live, I trained  `doing slow to
medium 50's for three years on my QUARTER mare with the goal of the
Tevis in mind.

This was our FIRST l00,she was l5 and I was "forty-something"  and she
came though with flying colors!  Finished  in the middle of the group,
and looked MUCH better than some of her faster fifty milers!  It
convinced me, and I have used this "method" ever since.  Many other
riders who started "way back when" do also.  I feel it is safer and most
times, more successful.
