Re: washing pads
Ummmm....I'm not sure if using horse shampoo would leave a whole lot less
residue in your pads (depending on what you refer to as "residue").  My
family manufactures about a dozen lines of animal grooming products, and
almost all of them contain detergent, some more than others.  For example,
Orvus is almost straight detergent, *very* harsh.  The ones that contain
very little are the puppy/no tears shampoos.  Also, the animal shampoos
often contain waxes which make hair feel tangle-free/silky and all that, but
would still be a residue in the pads.
If you want to wash your pads with a soap that rinses clean, you might try
Woolite.  About the only shampoos on the market that would be equivalent are
Neutrogena or the #1 All Systems line of dog shampoo---but I don't think I'd
want to spend the money on either of those to wash pads.
