Re: Garlic

Dawna's sad tale about garlic and herbs reminded me that I wanted to ask
others how much powdered garlic they have to give before it acts as a
fly/insect repellent on horses. I've been giving mine a heaping tablespoon
with their evening rations (which also includes a tsp. cayenne pepper and a
cup of apple cider vinegar) for a couple of months and can't see any change
in number of fly/bug bits on bellies and sheath area. My horses all love
the garlic, cayenne and vinegar. Their buckets smell like a salad bar and I
must admit that garlic breath on my horse right after eating isn't so
pleasant. But their breath is fresh by the morning. Wonder why ours isn't
after eating garlic?'

So, how much garlic can one safely feed a horse?
