Syringing Tale

I got home last night and decided I should give Saber his medication (he has
a bit of a snot so I am starting him on something). So I crushed numerous
tablets, 15 of 'um, plus some garlic tabs, vita C and enchinacea tabs. Then
added some syrup to the medication mixture and put it into a syringe.
Garlic really stinks in tablet form.

I measured out the appropriate herbs to add to his grain and head out to the
barn. Saber is new to all of this and wasn't at all cooperative or pleased
about the syringing efforts. Well of course, as things go, the syringe
clogged after the first tiniest bit came out, so after numerous tries to
draw in additional water and squirt it out, I gave up and drained the smelly
stuff into a bowl. The smell of the sulfur and garlic is bad, bad, bad. I
added more liquid and some molasses, put it in a smaller syringe, thinking I
could work a smaller syringe better with my hand that way. No avail. At
this point I decide to just push the stuff out of the syringe, back into the
bowl and add it to the grain. I push, and push, AND push, but there's a
small nugget of a tablet stuck in the tip. BIG PUSH...mistake...it gives
way, the force projects a stream of liquid which hits the bottom of the bowl
and ricochets up and sprays my face! Growl..... No not only can I smell the
concoction, I SMELL like the concoction and it isn't too tasty either.
Jeez.

Frustrated, I add the stuff to his grain, knowing full well he isn't going
to eat this stuff, pour in the herbs mix it up, throw him some hay, turn off
the lights and go back to the house to try and get at least some of this
stuff out of my hair and off my face.

I figure as long as I'm at the sink, and up, I might as well crush the 15+
tabs for the morning and let them soak in some applesauce for mornings dose.

This morning, I am just REALLY looking forward to plunging this down his
throat. Maybe it will work this time, after all the tabs should be
dissolved by now. Wrong. But good news, he's eaten all his grain from the
night before. Well....I think I'll just slap this stuff right in his grain
and call it good. Strange little horse, I've never had a horse that would
eat medicine is his grain much less garlic. Happy ending. Now if I can
just get this garlic smell off.
