Renting a 4X4

HI, Campers,

Several months ago while in Montana, I tried to rent a 4X4. I've been
renting cars for years as part of business trips, so it was nothing new. This
was my first time ever trying to rent a 4x4, though. Not only was I asked
whether I was going to go offroading with it (well, duh, of course, why do
you think I want a 4x4?) but it was also 35 bucks a day more PLUS....it came
with a 100 mile a day limit. After that it was 35 cents a mile. And if you've
ever been to Montana, EVERYTHING is well over a 100 miles from anywhere. What
a ripoff!

So..............I rented a nice car with unlimited mileage and put 600 miles
on it in four days, to include driving offroad in it. (the offroad was NOT up
streams and rockbeds. But car rental companies consider gravel and dirt roads
"offroad")

SO be careful...they'll gouge you if they can.
Michelle
