Truman,

Just where in Fla are you?  Up in the Northern section, ticks can be a
problem from spring thru fall.  As for skunks, several years ago, one
wandered onto my back porch and wedged itself behind the doghouse--much to
the absolute delight of my 2 dogs!  After confining them I returned home
late that afternoon to find the skunk had crawled into an empty box and was
sound asleep.  I gingerly carried the box about 1/4 mile down the road to a
heavily wooded area.  After very carefully placing it on the ground, I
gently(!) tipped it over and quietly retreated.  Thankfully, the skunk chose
not to return; however, it was weeks(!) before the odor retreated from the
porch.
