High Pulse

	Hi everyone,
I am a "newbie" and have a question I hope I can get some feedback
on. I
have a 6 y.o (this month) morgan gelding that I have owned for 2
years and
am hoping to do some CTR's with. I actually did my first 25 mile
last
weekend. he was very energetic, well hydrated and had no problems
except
that his pulse was 60 at the hold and again at the end. after 45
minutes it
dropped to 54. His resting pusle is 40-44 and while conditioning at
home it
is also around 60 for quite a while after a ride, so I know it was
not just
because of the excitement of the day. I ride him with a friend at
my barn
and we do exactly the same conditioning. We always ride together,
feed the
same, same pasture. Her horse is a 14 y.o. arabian and he recovered
to 34
after the ride this weekend and always drops to 40 in 5-10 minutes.
Do you
think my horse just needs more conditioning because he is young?
The arab
has never done distance before either so I am concerned. I don't
want to
hurt him if he is not physically built for distance, can some horses
just
never have good recoveries and maybe have something wrong? Hope I am
just
being paranoid. I appreciate all your experienced advice.
	Carolyn
