Wouldn't it be simpler to put the feed in a contaainer? Like a trash can?
With your luck, better use a plastic one--you might get hurt with the metal
ones <G>.

(Seriously, if the squirrel can access it, your horse, if loose, probably
could too--and grain overload is one of my least favorite emergency calls...)
