Pawnee Grasslands-The Real Deal

OK, this is it!:

The basecamp has been moved to a former Atlas missle site, now
"rehabilitated"!, which is located 1/2 mile north of Highway 14 on Forest
Road 607, 2.5 miles west of Briggsdale/County Road 77, and 1/2 mile east of
County Road 71. The road north off 14 is paved. The entrance to the site
is marked with pink flagging and signs, but the gate sets back off of 14 a
bit so you need to be looking. A glow stick will be put up when it gets
dark.

When camping, stay off the large dirt mound and be aware of the prickly
pear/cactus in the area. Please leave the area immediately around the fire
grate open. You can park off either side of the paved road coming in.
Horse & people water and a portapottie will be provided by 4:00 PM on
Friday.

The trails will all go in & out of camp to the north on the 2-track that
takes off from the paved road. After going through the open gate .4 miles
to the north of camp, they all turn and go due east on the north side of
the fence line.

When I was at the Grasslands yesterday, Crow Creek looked like the
Mississippi! Last year was nothing compared to this. The Creek crossing
was about 9' deep. The dam located about 2 miles to the north on the Creek
gave way at about 9:00 AM yesterday, but there was already so much water
that it was hardly noticeable! The closest we come to the Creek now is
about 1.5 miles to the west, and the trails are in great shape (except for
the prickly pear)! The temps are to be in the 70's.

See ya there!
Brad.
