...Operator error, i.e., rider stupidity, i.e., in either the type of
conditioning, setting of realistic goals or riding at the level of the
horses(rider's) abilities/conditioning.
We have had, trained and competed with gaited horses and we love them.
They can do trail riding, CTR's and endurance...they just are not "bred" for
it and though they can be conditioned to compete at their optimum abilities,
FOR THE MOST PART, it falls short of the endurance capabilities of the
"correctly bred and conformed" Arabian horse.
As to you contending that the Arabian horse has poor legs (suspensories)
and feet...as with any horse, breeding tells. The correctly bred Arabian
horse has no inherently (breed-specifc) leg or foot weaknesses...no more so
than a correctly bred TWH, Foxtrotter, Montana Traveler, etc.
It IS a question of bio-mechanical efficiency and related cardio-vascular
expenditure as it pertains to workload efficacy.
I ride all breeds of horses, but when I compete in endurance, it's on an
Arabian.
