trailer rear door question

Dear ridecampers,
Last year I bought a used trailer with a rear ramp and two
top doors.(I'm used to a step up stock trailer)
I see people going down the road with the top
doors tied back to the sides of the trailer in the hot weather. 
Does anyone have experience doing this? The way the top doors on 
mine latch open on the sides wouldn't be safe unless it was better 
attached. Last summer I just took the doors off, but that can be 
unhandy and they are heavy to put back on/require assistance.
Appreciate any suggestions.
