I mix them together. Neither are alfalfa based & I put it on
the grain ration. Tastes like confectionary's sugar.

Loading dose for a 1000lb horse (as recommended by Micheal Plumb)
is 7X the human dose (so it's about 7 grams, which is about 3-4
teaspoons per day).  I eased the horse up to loading dose over
a week period because flatulence is a side effect for humans & dogs & cats and wanted to avoid that!).

I saw a strong response in my horse who's a bad downill walker
(which tells me he DID have slight pain in his hocks.. I guess)
after 30 days. I backed him off to maintenance dose of 1 tsp/day
and he continues to do great.

There was even a more dramatic response in my old cat and my
friends old dog (at the scaled down loading dose for their
weight).

I take it too.
I was pretty impressed that  my hip pain (the right sacro-iliac joint) completely dissapeared after 3 weeks of loading dose.
I take 1/4 teas. daily and continue to be pain free.

I buy this brand because we have evidence it works.. but you may
be able to find it cheaper.
