Cantering

Steve Rojek and his wife Dinah just rode the Fla 3-day 100 almost completely
at the canter. I'm pretty sure Steve thinks it's the most efficient gait as
well.
As long as they are conditioned for it and have a nice canter, it's a snap
for most...
Incidentally, they passed me on the third day while I happened to have my
horse in a nice easy canter, and asked me why I didn't use it more often.
Guess I'm still just stuck in that old-fashioned thinking that the trot is
the most efficient gait. My horse can do an easy trot with a heart-rate of
98-109, but when he canters it goes up to 126 even though his canter is
"sweet" as Dinah Rojek put it.
I plan to start incorporating more cantering soon though and see if I can get
the HR down.
