Insurance for older horse

Hi,

  I just got a mortality/major medical/surgical policy on my 14 year old
Appaloosa. In two years, he will be past the age that Markel will cover him
for major medical. They will cover him for 2 more years (at a higher
cost/lower benefits) with a mortality/surgical policy. Does anybody know of
an insurance company that will offer a major medical policy for a horse 16
or over? Markel used to offer it until the horse turned 18, but now it's
down to 16.

I'm a real worrier, especially hauling my horse in a trailer around to rides
and training rides. I don't want to take him places all the time without
the funds to pay the vet bills if something happens. Maybe I'll be rich
enough to have a huge fund for horsy emergencies by the time he turns 16,
but, if not, I'd sure hate to retire him from trailering around at 16. I
know other things can happen, but I'm specifically worried about trailering.

Anyway, if you know of somebody that will cover 16+ horses for major
medical, please let me know...I may be looking for another insurer in a
couple of years (or even next year if I find a good one).

Thanks,
