Right, Sarah. It's worse in racehorses where racing fitness increases splenic
capacity and lowers PCV--vets go crazy injecting blood-building concoctions
and trainers LOAD iron. Serum ferritin is the only definitive test for anemia.
Among other things, iron is a pro-oxidant--the opposite of vitamin E, etc.
