Re: RC: Ponying

I used to be a polo groom and it is SOP to pony several horses at the same
time, IF you can get your ducks (er, ponies-VBG-) in a row! After much
practice, I was able to pair up suitable partners, i.e. whomever feels he/she
must race ahead gets put on the outside with the "dragger" in between us. The
lead line for the outside horse is run through the halter of the inside horse
but not tied. A western saddle helps to dally if the dragger becomes too slow
and my stout Alpha mare takes no grief or listens to no whining. After doing
this 3 to 4 days a week, I figured out my good "sets". They were ponied at a
trot for 40 minutes after a walk warm-up and a walk cool-down to finish. I
have utilized some of this trying to keep the family horses fit, bit I really
enjoy the time with each horse individually.
