I got mine from Ortho-Flex in 1990 and it's still in good shape.  It's
round, soft neoprene.  There is a flat leather pad that's neoprene lined
that sits on top of the croup.  You can sometimes see where it's been on
the hair, but we've never had a rub.  I ride up and down Lookout Mountain
a lot and the skidder paths from the loggers are pretty much straight
down.  Someone else who was asking about cruppers said that 80% of those
who responded used the OF.  I have a couple of leather ones too, but
prefer the neoprene.

One note.  Had one person ask how I got mine to last so well.  She'd
rubbed Petroleum Jelly on hers to try to keep it soft and it hadn't
lasted long.  I've never even washed mine off and it's fine.  I think any
sort of oil is bad for petroleum products like neoprene.  Somebody
correct me if I'm wrong.
