Hello - is there anybody out there that lets their horse go barefoot and uses easyboots regularly for training rides and competitions? If so, what are the pros and cons? Can you get those boots on fast enough to make tacking up time reasonable? Do you lose them frequently? My mare has good, strong feet and can go barefoot all the time for ring work and short training rides on good footing, but needs something more for longer rides and competitions. She seems to have an annoying habit of wrenching off at least one of her shoes about 3 weeks into the shoeing cycle. This happens in the pasture most of the time, but also happens during CTR competitions on a basis too regular to be a coincidence. She decides to do some explosive sprints around the pasture and bingo - one less shoe (usually a front shoe). I have worked with my farrier to eliminate interference by shortening her front toes and setting her shoes back on the hinds. It has eliminated the forging and interference marks she would sometimes get on long rides, but she still yanks the shoes from time to time. So I'm wondering if we'd all be happier (and a bit richer perhaps) if she only wore her running sneakers when she needed them. Any comments? Thanks in advance.
