molasses
Molasses is used to hold some of the ingrediants together, like grain to
carrots and such. It also has an appealing taste and strong odor to horses,
so they are more likely to gobble down mashes made with it, and much quicker.
It also adds flavor to water in mashes so they will slurp this down as well.
I don't think that it has any real "energy" sources as it would be like eating
candy; what energy it gave off would be spent in a few short minutes.
