Re: mares & tying up?

Melody,

I've had 1 mare; she's never tied up (hope saying this doesn't jinx me!!), has
2700 miles (at age 11), and has done pretty well at CTR & 50 milers. She is
not any more difficult to handle when in season, has done some 50 milers when
in season & no problems (mental or physical). She takes good care of herself
(eats, careful in rough terrain, doesn't waste energy). Had 1 typing up
incident early in my "career" -- with my gelding. Our first 40 mile CTR ---
didn't use electrolytes, didn't have heart moniter (suspect I let him go too
fast the first 25 mi), not much water on ride. Fortunately tying up was at
camp at end & not severe. I learned a lot!!
