hi everyone...

i thought you might like an update on the treeless saddle i sopke about
about 4 weeks ago....

i was looking for a saddle that i could trail ride and jump in for around
the barn and at our cabin in the mountains. i also wanted a saddle that i
could ride in wearing shorts or jeans [this is hard wth the stirrup straps
on my english saddle]. the last thing was that i wanted a saddle that would
fit bob, my horse [17-3" and 1,700 lbs] and john henry [16-2" and 1,400
lbs].

i have tried many saddles like the bob marshall sports saddle [hornless]
and the big horn endurance along with the colorado saddlery bareback pad
with a half tree for hanging stirrup straps and regular western saddles ...
none were comfortable on john henry nor could i jump in them without
hitting the pommel and being thrown back in the seat.

i heard about the softride and i got the demo saddle several days ago and
it is very, very nice. not only is it light, it will fit both bob and john
henry but one thing no other treeless saddle has had is that it is wither
conforming...that is the underside of the saddle is made of 1"+ felt pads
that are split down the back and cut to be high in front so it won't cinch
down on high withers. the top of the saddle is channel quilted rough out
seude and the pommel and cantel rolls are made of cordura in many colors [i
got hunter green]. one very nice feature for mules is that the girth
attaches [on both sides] with two straps - one from the front of the saddle
and one from the rear and both sides buckle into the girth...this means
that you can adjust the girth backwards if your mule is particularly
straight shouldered. for the rest of the saddle - it comes with a cantle
bag, many rings and tie strings, a girth and breast collar and the stirrups
have cordura fenders...also my saddle came with beautiful leather and
cordura piped tapaderos which are a good safety feature. the girth and
breast collar are nalgahyde piped in cordura - since jh is allergic to
neoprene i was glad to see that it wasn't used in this saddle.

this is a very nice, well made saddle that allows me to post and jump and i
would recommend it to anyone who is looking for a mule/donkey friendly
saddle

if you are interested the e-mail address for rebecca underwood, the
manufacturer, is... softride@cdsnet.net
