uh, excuse me but here is ONE idea.It is early so bear with me: IAHA has a
fairly new program called Recreational Riders. For a one-time $25 fee, they
accept your daily riding hours logs and at certain points reward you with
caps, patches, tees, jackets, watches.... get the picture? No official
competition time counts BUT all the prepr miles do. This is designed for the
true rec rider - the guy who hasn't got time or inclination for AERC or NATRC.
Why don't all you guys - even seasoned competitors - check it out on their
wbsite. My little daughter is already at 500, and my mare and I are not far
from 1000. It is kind of fun and low pressure AND a great idea for families.
It also presents another angle of the costs of maintaining programs. AT a one
time fee of $25 - well, it puts a different spectre on teh dues scales in
other organizations, doesn't it?? In any case, if you think payin that extra
$10 for non-members is abig deal, try going to a horse show. EGADS! Non-AHSA
fee, non-IAHA fee, non-AHRA fee, program fee, stall fee, office fee(?),
organization fee (WHAT IS THAT??), and THEN one pays for each class! I am sure
I firgetting some too, so there is some perspective.
