I would just like to state that you should check with your insurance agent
on WHAT your homeowners insurance will cover. Liability coverage on a
homeowners policy may not cover the owner of a horse that is boarded at a
stable, or may limit coverage if the horse is kept at your home. At lot of
insurance companies require a farm/ranch policy to cover the horse owner
for liability. If you are in a liability situation would $300,000 cover
your need? If you homeowners covers you for horse related losses for
liability I would suggest you think of increasing coverage to $500,000
minimum. Then consider a personal excess policy of $1 million. If you
horse causes a liability situation then you'll need all of the coverage you
can get. I am an insurance agent and every company that I write with have
different endorsement in regards to horses in our state. I have never
checked on the boarded horse as we don't have any boarding situations in my
area of the state. It is something I would check into if I boarded my
horses!

Bankers Trust does write a nice policy for mortaltiy, major medical and
liability coverage any agent should be able to give anyone details. Again
let them know how you use your horse. I haven't been able to find coverage
for mortality for endurance horses. If anyone does I would appreciate the
name of the carrier that will do it.
