Insurance

I have all my horses insured for something. two of mine are insured for
Specified perils and options only...meaning hit by lightening, or vehicle,
trailer accident, or any other accidental death you can think of. It's 1%
of the insured value. In other words, if you have a horse worth 2000.00,
and insure this way, it's only $20.00 per year. Some places require a
minimum of $100.00 per year to insure. Mine does.
I have my younger horses insured for full mortality and colic. Since I
have Arab crosses, I get the arabian rate of 3% of insured cost. So, you
do the math. 2000.00 X 3% = $60.00 per year. It's affordable and this
company pays off. I know. I had a claim a couple of years ago and they
paid off really quickly and it's not affected my rates or my coverage
since. The thing is, I insured this horse for SPO, on the phone, picked
him up the next morning and he was dead by nightfall, an awful accident.
The company even sent out a condolence letter!

if anyone is interested in this until AERC decides if they will go this
route, please email me privately and I will give you the name and phone
number of my insurance guy.
There are some things like breed and age and use that affect the %'s, but
it's not much difference.
