Rearing while saddling...

Hartley, Your problem sounds so much like my mare that it's uncanny. As
a youngster beginning training, it was easy to saddle her(3 yrs old). As
she matured, by the time she was six, she developed the problem of
rearing up and throwing herself backwards. As it turned out, the problem
was the fit of the saddle. Her back, like the backs of most horses,
changed over time. Once I had a saddle custom made for her back AND SHE
REALIZED IT NO LONGER HURT TO WEAR IT, SHE BEGAN IMPROVING. Now the only
time she gives me a problem is saddling her before an endurance ride.
THAT has proven to be nerves on her part, and I have worked out a system
that gets the job done. Have you and your trainer checked into the
possiblility of a poorly fitting saddle causing your horse pain?
