Founder Question!!

My mare (20 years old) is finally, I think, recovering from founder
(about 10 months since started).  Question -- she seems to be very itchy
around all four coronary bands, i.e., she is nipping at them a lot.  I
heard somewhere that that is a sign of healing.  Any ideas out there???
