THERE IS A PARTICULARLY NASTY VIRAL INFECTION GOING AROUND. I WENT TO A NEVADA RIDE SEVERAL WEEKS AGO AND BY FOLLOWING FRIDAY MY HORSE DID NOT FINISH HIS P.M. MEAL UNBEKNOWNST TO ME UNTIL THE NEXT P.M. WHEN HE WAS RUNNING A 104 TEMP. THE ONLY CLUE BESIDES NOT FINISHING HIS MEAL WAS AN ELEVATED PULSE AT END OF AN EASY(THANK GOODNESS) SHORT RIDE. IT IS MANIFESTED WITH HIGH FEVER AND A VERY, VERY SORE THROAT. SO EATING AND DRINKING ARE NOT THEIR FAVORITE PASTIME NO MATTER HOW HUNGRY. SOME COUGHING, BAD WHEN THEY DO, NASAL DISCHARGE ABOUT DAY 6-7. MY HORSE IS AT DAY 10 AND FINALLY ACTING NORMAL. WANTED PEOPLE TO KNOW. ESPECIALLY THOSE WHO TURN THEIR HORSES OUT. ANOTHER HORSE,THAT WAS AT SAME RIDE, LOST 100 LBS. BEFORE OWNER KNEW.
