What about Slypners?

What about them?The idea of the pad being outside the shoe,and easily 
changed or replaced by the owner,appeals to me.But it's hard to imagine 
the pads wearing long,given that regular steel shoes are pretty much shot 
in six weeks.So,has anyone tried them?
