I use the vetwrap to wrap the horses entire hoof.  This adds protection to
the heel, and also protects the hoof wall from getting scratched from the
metal teeth on the boot.  

When you wrap around the foot, leave enough of a lip at the bottom (over
the shoe) so that when you pull the boot on it doesn't pull the vetwrap up.
 Wrap around two or three times.  When you are done, you can trim away any
excess at the top that is sticking out.  But be sure to leave enough to
make a fashion statement (cardinal rule: make sure the vetwrap matches your
horses tack) <vbg>. ;-)   Co-Flex also works well.
