*Some* Good News about Yosemite

Lynge, that's great news that Yosemite Valley and Wawona Stables will be
open for the 1998 season! Hopefully the 2-hour rides will be expanded
for the half-day and full-day enthusiasts.
Jim Shiro, retired Forest Service director, wrote to Nancy Dupont,
congratulating her on her hard work and warning her that we equestrians
must redouble our efforts to get the other items we need: staging
areas, adequately-sized horse camps, true trail access (not paved, not
blocked), and more mounted ranger patrols.
By copy to Ridecamp, I'm asking readers to PLEASE post emails (again,
if you've already written) to: Stanley Albright (Park Superintendent) at
stanley_t_albright@nps.gov and a letter to Jerry Mitchell, Chief of
Implementation of the Yosemite Management Plan, at
jerry_mitchell@nps.gov.
BTW, Jerry responded to one recent letter about horsecamps by saying
that the YMP doesn't specifically plan for "bicycle camps" either!
Sorry, Jerry, you can't just lean a horse against a tree or take it apart
and stuff it into a trunk!
Many thanks to all trail supporters (;-) Connie Berto, AERC Trails
Chmn.
